Talossan suffixes are added to “stems” of words, which are determined according to the following rules.<\/p>\n

If the suffix begins with a consonant (for example, -cada<\/strong>), the full word is the stem.<\/li>\n
Otherwise, if the word ends in…\n

a consonant, or in the stressed ending -\u00e9u<\/strong>, the full word itself is the stem (for example: p\u00e4ts<\/em>, naziun<\/em>, traval<\/em>, \u00e7\u00e9u<\/em>).<\/li>\n
a stressed vowel (for example, p\u00e0<\/em>, itr\u00ec<\/em>, comunist\u00e0<\/em>), the stem is formed by adding the letter -n<\/strong> (making pan-<\/strong>, itrin-<\/strong>, comunistan-<\/strong>).<\/li>\n
an unstressed vowel or vowels, the stem is formed by removing that vowel or those vowels (for example, the stem of gascota <\/em>is gascot-<\/strong>, that of \u00f3spila <\/em>is \u00f3spil-<\/strong>). Note cases when the letters i<\/strong> and u<\/strong> are pronounced as consonants; in these cases, they are not removed from a stem (for example, the stem of doua <\/em>is dou-<\/strong> and that of ziua <\/em>is ziu-<\/strong>). Also, in words ending in -ia<\/strong> (or -\u00eda<\/strong>) the -i-<\/strong> is retained (for example, the stem of leitur\u00eda <\/em>is leituri-<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Numerical Suffixes<\/h2>\n
When a number is suffixed, it often retains its full value (that is, the full word is the stem), or takes a slightly modified form. This is seen in the examples dueta<\/i>, douaplicarh<\/i>, and quartet<\/i>, below.<\/p>\n

-aina<\/em><\/strong> is used to form a collective noun [dudeschaina <\/em>is a group of twelve, tresaina <\/i>is a threesome]<\/li>\n
-et<\/i><\/b>, having the feminine form -eta<\/i><\/b> is used to indicate group of people [quartet <\/em>is a quartet, dueta <\/em>is a duet of females]<\/li>\n
-f\u00f6ld<\/i><\/b> is used like the English suffix -fold, increase [tresf\u00f6ld <\/em>is threefold, sexf\u00f6ld <\/em>is six-fold]<\/li>\n
-plet<\/i><\/b> is used to indicate a number of siblings [douaplet <\/em>is a twin, tresplet <\/em>a triplet, and viensplet <\/em>is an only-begotten]<\/li>\n
-plicarh<\/i><\/b> forms a verb meaning multiplication [douaplicarh <\/em>is to double, tresplicarh <\/em>is to triple]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
